Telegraph Spring Scrimmage
Saturday, Feb 20, 2021
12:00 PM - 5:30 PM PST
Hosted online, via Zoom
Telegraph Speech and Debate is hosting a semester kick-off tournament on February 20, 2021.
The purpose of this tournament is to develop students' familiarity with debate concepts, and prepare them for upcoming extramural tournaments that will be available later in the semester.
Unlike past tournaments, students at the Spring tournament will be using longer, Lincoln-Douglas-length speeches.
This tournament will be single-flighted, in order to increase each student's speaking time, and reduce their waiting time.
The Spring tournament will also include higher-level debate topics that more closely resemble High School-level Parliamentary resolutions.

This tournament is geared towards students who are curious about debating competitively.
For $75.00*, students get to compete in 3 competitive debate rounds, in which they will be ranked based on their win/loss ratio and speaker points.
-
(*) This is a discounted price. The registration fee will go up to $95 on 1/10/21.

Format
The format will be a modified version of Parliamentary debate, which will be similar to the format they've been using in class, although they will get a bit more preparation time. Students will receive information on this format in class, and we will prepare all students that compete in the weeks leading up to the class.
Students will receive their topic 15 minutes before their debate starts.
